Why Australian Terriers?
A few years ago, I was visiting a friend's farm and met her Aussie Terrier female with 2 puppies. It was love at first sight, and I knew this was the breed for me! I had considered a Yorkie in the past, but realized that the small stature of a Yorkshire Terrier would be at risk in an active family/Farm environment such as ours. Australian Terrier = Win. A few things I learned:
- Australian Terriers are the quietest and the gentlest of all the terriers (forget that terrier = terror phrase!.. well, for the most part ;) ... and quite teachable!
- Australian Terriers have boundless, joyful energy for playing outside with the family, and transform into pleasant 'couch potatoes' once back in the house. Plenty of run time outside is ideal in teaching young Aussies about the delights of nap time.
- Australian Terriers have a coat which is straight/slightly wavy, medium length, practically odorless, and requires little upkeep. No trips to the groomer needed! Minimal shedding!
- Australian Terriers are a sturdy, little breed with a height of about 10-11 inches, average weight is 12-16 lbs...though our male is a whopping 22 lbs with his championship lines!
- Australian Terriers make excellent house-dogs, are good with children and get along well with other pets. Good citizen training with cats, chickens, and other small animals is a must.
Tinnesh is all quiet sweetness, loving and dedicated to her person and family. Buzz is a handsome, cheerful bundle of fun - hug me, love me, let's play then cuddle! Both are lovely quality dogs... Tinnesh (Not currently registered*) & Buzz (AKC). "Tinnesh" is Amharic (Ethiopian) for "Little/Small." Buzz is so named for his super-hero, cheerful attitude aka: "Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!!"
(*Puppies are not eligible for AKC registration, and families must sign a spay/neuter agreement)
