Those who talk with me regularly know that my head is full of puppy news! They hear all about it, like it or not. These Australian Terrier Puppies are just addictive – cute, funny, smart… you know, “perfect in every way!” ;) What can I say… I get this way with all types of babies.
By 8:00 this morning, 50 new little balls of fluff were settled into their warm pen, each beak having been carefully dipped to introduce them to the water jug. We’ll babysit the Cornish-cross chicks especially carefully for the next few days. It’s easy to ooh and aah over their cuteness at this stage!
Every morning our 6th daughter launches out of the house to check her mini mare out in the barn. Her foal is due any day now, and we’re all getting excited to meet little him/her! Be assured that I’ll rattle on about that one too…
Earlier this spring, we welcomed another Scottish Belted Galloway calf, out of a pretty cow named Heidi. The little heifer (girl) still needs a great name, but we love watching her skip around in the pastures.
Not every new member of the farm has come as a newborn. Just this spring, we’ve added a ‘used’ cat (Chauncey – pretty calico); a townie-needs-a-farm-life bunny (Harry – who has thrown out his litter box/house bunny ways to potty with reckless abandon in his new, outside pen, right next to his new friend, Alvin); 3 really nice Simmentals (I think 2 heifers and a steer??); and a gorgeous Alpine Milk goat with her twin doelings – ooOOh! Babies! Let’s chat about them!
Our oldest son is stepping out in a new direction, hoping to learn and enjoy raising Alpine Milk goats. Thanks to an incredibly kind, generous, and extremely knowledgeable friend who is getting him started, he is caring for the 2 doelings (girl goats..). Their mother, beautiful “Alta” goes back to her home this week after lovingly helping our son care for the babies until they were old enough for weaning. She will be available for sale to an approved home – she’s sweet and incredibly healthy, so spread the word!
Every May is a little bit overwhelming here, but the babies add an element of fun! Gardens are going in, weeds are being pulled, and the lawn is getting out of control. Summer time is just around the corner…
